Tour River Huecar Canal Walk

The Tour River Huecar Canal Walk is a surprising experience in nature, a magnificant way to discover the autumn colors only a few kilometers from Cuenca.

During this private excursion Cuenca Guiada offers you a hiking tour that takes about two and a half hours along the remains of an old water canal of the Sixteenth Century, through the spectacular Huecar River Gorge. Occasionally we walk upon the aqueduct, now and then it will be visible, although big part of the canal we cannot see, because it´s underground or sculped in the rocks.

The walking tour starts and ends next to the Hotel Cueva del Fraile. First we hike in direction of the Medieval Town of Cuenca, which we can observe from different and astonishing views, afterwards we walk back to the starting point.

This hiking tour we´ll show you not only the history of the water canal, but also the breathtaking fall colors of the natural environment. During the month of October, the normally green leaves of the tanner´s sumach (Rhus coriaria) are changing into an incredible deep red color. The canal path is invaded by this bush and its orange and red colors. This gives us a lot of opportunities to make astonishing photographs!

This walking tour is an easy hiking trail, because most of the itinarary is relatively flat. Bur it is a trail so we recommend to wear hiking boots or shoes.
